Woman Receives Pilot’s License in California
Julia Clark was born in London in 1880. She emigrated to the US and settled in Denver. Clark enrolled at the Curtiss Flying School at North Island in San Diego, California and took classes, the first woman to be taught there.
On May 19, 1912 Julia Clark received the third pilot’s license ever issued to a woman from the Aero Club of America after flying in a 15 MPH wind at 800 ft. She has purchased a Curtiss aeroplane and plans to do exhibition flying.
