City Marshal Ambushed In Georgia
J Matt Willard was the city marshal in Flovilla, Georgia for the past 15 years.
On June 2, 1912 he was on duty when he was gunned down while walking near a cotton patch. Immediately after the killing, Stephen Plymale approached a witness and threatened to kill her is she talked about the incident. Bloodhounds led the Butts County Sheriff to Plymale’s home where a gun was found that had been recently fired. The coroner’s jury ruled that Plymale assassinated Willard. Plymale has been arrested but professes his innocence.
