Contest For Human Powered Flight In France

The Peugeot family in France has been involved in manufacturing since the early 1800’s. In the 1880’s the company moved into mass production of bicycles and by 1889 they were making automobiles.
In 1912 the head of the family Robert Peugeot offered a prize for the any man-powered vehicle that can fly a sustained distance of 100 meters.

On June 2, 1912 a contest for human-powered flying machines takes place in France with 23 entrants attempting to win the Peugeot Prize. There are no successes.
