Oil Field Fire In California

David Dunbar Buick was born in in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland in 1854 and moved to Detroit, Michigan at the age of 2. He started out in the plumbing business but soon developed an interest in the internal combustion engine. He started making engines in 1899 and then complete automobiles in 1902 founding the Buick Manufacturing Company. He developed the revolutionary overhead valve engine and formed the Buick Motor Company. Buick left the company he founded in 1910 and began investing in oil fields in California.

On June 2, 1912 a fire broke out at the Buick Oil fields in California. It affected nearby La Belle and Pacific Company oil fields as well.
