South Branch Township is a small township in Wexford County, Michigan. Hoxeyville is a small unincorporated community in the southeast corner of the township. Once railroads reached the area, timber harvest became an important business. The State of Michigan mandated that no elementary school child should be required to walk more than a mile to school. In Wexford County’s many timber camps, many school were required. More than 80 rural schools were created.
