The US Army Mule Passes The Test Against The Truck
Near Madison, Wisconsin a provisional unit of the US Army is conducting maneuvers in Middleton. Colonel R N Getty decided to use the exercise as a test.
On June 20, 1912 US Army mules were found to be superior to trucks that were used to haul necessary goods and ordinance.
“The automobile test has been such as to warrant that it is unwise and unsafe to supersede army mules and wagons with the troops by any other form of locomotion.”
Colonel Getty has no doubt that the auto truck will provide valuable assistance for conveyance in the future but for now is no substitute for the mule.
