3 Girls Killed In Water Tank Collapse In Pennsylvania
The Union American Cigar Company Building is located in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A few days ago, a water tank was erected on the roof of the 6 story structure.
On August 7, 1912 the new water tank was in the process of being filled for the first time when the supports gave way. The tank and 3,000 of water crashed through the sixth floor which was unoccupied then continued to the fifth floor where 150 employees, mostly young women were working. Those not caught by the falling debris rushed for the stairs and joined by panicked employees from lower floors, 500 people jammed the stairwells, injuring many. In all 3 girls were killed.
