A History Of Events And Happenings From Exactly One Hundred Years Ago

Japanese Warship Launched

In 1910 the Japanese Emergency Naval Expansion Bill sought to update Japan’s Naval power to rival the naval capabilities of the other major powers at the time. The HIEI was the second of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Kongō class battlecruisers. With her heavy armament and armor protection (the latter of which made up 23.3% of their approximately 30,000 ton displacement),the HIEI was vastly superior to any other Japanese capital ship afloat at the time.

On November 21, 1912 the HIEI was launched at Yokosuka on Tokyo Bay. Most of the parts used in her construction were manufactured in Britain.
