Schoolhouse Burns In Colorado

In 1882 Captain George A Crawford passed through an area of Colorado that had just been opened to settlement by immigrants. The post office was established in 1883 and given the name Crawford. The school house was built in 1906.

On December 12, 1912 a fire started in the west chimney of the school and spread destroying the roof to nothing and blackening the stone exterior, flames licking out of the dozens of windows. A bucket brigade was formed by the size of the fire and structure was too formidable.
