There is some controversy as to how the name VICTOR came about for the record company. One story claims that the first improved Gramophone to be both a scientific and business ‘victory.’ A second account is that the company emerged as the ‘Victor’ from the lengthy and costly patent litigations involving competing gramaphones Berliner and Zonophone. A third story is that it is derived from a business partner wife’s name ‘Victoria.’ Finally, a fourth story is that it came from a popular bicycle brand, ‘Victor’. In any case, Victor is the biggest record company in America. It has it’s own house orchestra and well as a military band, The Victor Military band.
